Say it ain't so, Joe...er, Berkeley Breathed! I love Opus! He's been around for 30 of my 32 years and to spend a Sunday without him is unimaginable. Where else on a Sunday morning will I find unbelievable insight, love and a deep knowledge that I am not alone on this earth?
I have been a faithful follower and it breaks my heart to see Opus in an animal shelter. Don't tell me he is going to be euthanized?!?
Oh Opus. You will be missed.

Lady for a Day
Frank Capra's Lady for a Day (1933) was on TCM yesterday and I loved it. Thank you, Carol, for letting me know it was going to be on. :)
I had watched Pocketful of Miracles, which is the 1966 version, but I had never seen the original.
In the original (Lady for a Day), May Robson plays Apple Annie.
In Pocketful of Miracles (1966) Apple Annie is played by Bette Davis. Well, you know I love Bette Davis, but May Robson is amazing in the role and although both play a cranky, old drunk woman superbly only May Robson shows the tender side. She was a great actress and I look forward to searching out more movies that she had roles in.
Besides the wonderful performance of May Robson, the rest of the cast was great. I loved Warren William as Dave the Dude. Guy Kibbee played the judge & added so much more to the character than the 1966 version.
From the Bette Davis picture it looks like the witch in Snow White about to sell one of her "special apples", so I'll tell you a little about the movie.
Right at the beginning we meet the main character, Apple Annie. Apple Annie is a street peddler, who crosses paths with all sorts of interesting characters as she sells her special apples. She is uncouth, unkempt & not the typical sweet little old lady, but there is something so endearing about her that you can't help but falling in love with the character.
Corresponding by letters, she has kept in touch with a daughter she has never seen. Apple Annie has been less than honest about her life and made it seem like she was a member of high society. Soon she finds out her daughter is planning a trip to New York so that she, her fiancée and her future father-in-law can meet her. As you can guess Apple Annie is distressed because she doesn't want her daughter to ever see the real life that she lives.
I wish I had a clip from youtube but I couldn't find one. From someone that usually doesn't care for Awwwww movies, this is a sweet, enjoyable film that I would recommend.

Butt Sniffing Frenzy
It was the grand opening for our city's dog park so of course we had to attend. There were hundreds of pooches in a 2 acre area running loose. omg, I wasn't sure about letting the girls off their leash but after awhile we did. I've learned that Bailey hates other dogs. She wasn't snippy, but scared & didn't care at all for all the butt sniffing. Several times she wanted me to pick her up but I refuse to carry a 30 lb dog around a dog park. Haley on the other hand ran off with a pack of Rottweilers. lol She loved it. After an hour we had to put her back on her leash because we couldn't keep track of her.
We met a lot of Beagle owners which was nice. The dog park is, well, they did such a wonderful job with the 6 foot fence being straight & level at the top that at the bottom sometimes the fence was 6 inches from the ground!!! Luckily our girls were so busy with all the excitement. All the city officials were there talking about the stupid 2 gate system so when one person was leaving it was like double secure from your dog escaping but they could easily go right under the fence?!? Being the b*tch that I am, I had to ask them if they were going to fix it and he acted like I was such a party pooper. How dare I gripe. Hey, I didn't mention the fact that there are zero trees for shade.
We have are own place for the girls to run that I think is much safer but it was fun to meet other dog owners. Ironically when there was a dog fight it was always the ankle biters getting rowdy with each other. I've never seen that many dogs together at one time.
My camera wasn't working but the girls were on the local news.
